Flipping dictionary

To understand some keywords that are often used when talking about flips, I created this dictionary. It will contain many useful terms that are easy to understand once you know.

  1. Flip – A flip is a maneuver that rotates an object end over end. In gymnastics this means a rotation where you are going over your head. Examples are the backflip and the frontflip.

2. Twist – A twist refers to rotation around the person’s vertical (longitudinal) axis—the invisible line running from head to toe. Unlike a flip, which rotates the body forward or backward, a twist is like spinning a pencil in mid-air.

3. Tuck – A tuck is a movement where you curl your body by pulling your knees towards your chest. This will increase turning speed in flips. However, in twists it will decrease your turning speed.

4. Full – A full is a flip with a twist in it. This can be a frontfull, frontflip with a twist, or a backfull, backflip with a twist. Furthermore you can do a doublefull, triplefull, etc. Respectively, this means one flip with two twists, one flip with three twists etc.
